# How to make a one-tap video call with Nonna

> Start a video call instantly by tapping a contact photo in Nonna. No menus, no dial tones — just one tap to connect with family.

Nonna is built around one simple idea: seeing family should never be complicated. When you open the app, the home screen shows the photos of your loved ones — tap any photo to start a video call instantly, with no menus or extra steps in between.

<Info>
  All Nonna video calls are end-to-end encrypted. Your conversations are private and cannot be accessed by anyone outside your family network.

## How to make a call

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Nonna">

  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap a photo">
    Tap the photo of the person you want to call. Nonna immediately starts connecting — there is no confirmation screen or dial button.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for them to answer">
    The app rings on their device. Your screen shows a connecting animation while you wait. Most calls connect within a few seconds.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start talking">
    Once they answer, the call goes full-screen automatically. You can see and hear each other clearly straight away.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## During a call

When a call is active, the screen shows a full-screen view of the person you are speaking with. A small preview of your own camera appears in the corner so you can see what they see.

Controls appear at the bottom of the screen:

* **Mute** — silence your microphone without ending the call
* **Camera off** — turn off your camera if you only want to talk
* **End call** — hang up and return to the home screen

Tap anywhere on the screen to show or hide the controls if they are not visible.

## How to end a call

Tap the red **End call** button at the bottom of the screen. The call closes immediately and you return to the Nonna home screen.

## If the call does not connect

If the call fails to connect or drops mid-call, try the following:

1. Check that your device has an active internet connection — either mobile data or Wi-Fi.
2. Ask the other person to check their connection too.
3. Wait a few seconds, then tap their photo again to retry.
4. If the problem continues, restart the Nonna app and try once more.

<Tip>
  For the best call quality, make sure you are in a well-lit room with light facing you rather than behind you. Good lighting helps the other person see you clearly, even on a slower connection.
</Tip>

## Call quality on slower connections

Nonna automatically adjusts video quality to match the speed of your internet connection. On a slower connection, the video may look slightly less sharp, but the call will still connect and audio will remain clear. You do not need to change any settings — Nonna handles this for you.
